An Approach to Autoimmune Diseases
Thank you very much for being with me.
I was touched and compelled to write this book after many years of experience treating and being involved in research on these diseases. I have been deeply moved to realize that there are many diseases, yet we do not understand them well.
These are conditions that torment patients for a very long time, and sometimes it takes seeing four or even five doctors before a clear diagnosis is made. Patients often feel lost in a sea of persistent, unexplained, or recurring symptoms.
Doctors also struggle significantly to determine the exact diagnosis.
In this book, I intend to provide a clear guide and structure for both healthcare providers and patients to better understand autoimmune diseases, so they can be treated more effectively, and patients can take better care of themselves to live healthier and longer lives.
There are around 150 known autoimmune diseases, although most books mention about 80 or more. In medical school, we don’t give these conditions the attention they deserve due to the vast amount of content we have to study. In fact, even among doctors, if you ask someone to list just twenty autoimmune diseases, perhaps only 5% could manage to do so.
This book will benefit medical and nursing students at all levels, from diploma to PhD. However, patients can also read and identify conditions that may be diagnosed in them.
In delivering this message, I have emphasized the importance of viewing these diseases broadly, not merely as isolated conditions affecting the patient. I have focused more on the causes of the diseases, including environmental triggers, genetic predisposition, and immune dysregulation. This is a more holistic and integrative approach.
I believe all this will lead us to more effective treatment strategies.
