The word "ability" is known as "dunamis" in the Greek language. This word means "strength, power, or extraordinary power." In the context of the Bible, the word "dunamis" is used to show the power of God and His ability of doing the impossible things to humans. God's power manifests itself in the various ways in the Bible. If you read the Book of Genesis, you will see His power to create the whole world from just His Word . We read:
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light." Genesis 1:1-3
Here we see how God used His unique ability to create the world from a state of desolation and darkness. The word "power" also is used to show the miraculous power of God that showed through His servants in the Bible.
In the Book of Exodus, we see how God sent Moses to deliver the Israelists from slavery in Egypt. God demonstrated His extraordinary abilities through miracles such as turning water into blood, sending plagues, and dividing the red sea so that the Israelists may pass through it. This was a sign of God's power and His power in delivering His people.
In the New Testament, the word "power" is used many times to show the power of Jesus Christ. Jesus showed wonderful power through miracles such as healing the sick, raising the dead, and even controlling waves and the storms. Through these miracles, Jesus taught people about power and strength of God and how they can have faith in this power.
Power is also associated with the Holy Spirit in the Bible. If you read the book of Acts 1:8, Jesus he tells His disciples:
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Here, the word "Power" relates to the power of the Holy Spirit, enabling students to be witnesses of Jesus in the entire world.
In the Biblical context, the word "power" has extra meaning than physical strength or ability to do wonderful things. It involves spiritual power and the power of God to do things that are impossible to men. This power confirms the glory and authority of God and to encourage us to have faith in His ability. .....................
